Locking the front door to your house, you stared at the indigo sky before excitedly walking off to Matthew's place.

Today was the first of July also known as Canada Day as well as Matthew Williams' birthday. Although, not many were aware about the latter one. You made sure that, as Matthew's girlfriend, he would enjoy celebrating his birthday with his friends.

During the day, you had planned many events in order to celebrate the occasion and you had decided that during the night you would have a romantic date.

Still walking, you nervously held the present you were going to give, despite his protests earlier this week. Though the present wasn't much, since, you were so busy planning his birthday that you nearly forgot about getting him a present.

Finally in front of the Canadian's home, a modern suburban house painted white with a burgundy colored rooftop, you gently knocked on the door. Not even bothering to ask who was there, the door opened to reveal Matthew in a black suit.

"Ah… wow… you… look great [name]." Your boyfriend muttered, amazed at your appearance the moment he opened the door.

"I just thought wearing this red dress, since the color red is in the Canadian flag, would be a little patriotic of me while we spend your birthday together. Plus, you look amazing yourself Mattie." You said, your cheeks turning red as Matthew gently held your hand and lead you inside his home.

As you followed him, you discreetly hid the present behind a pillow when you passed by the sofa in his living room.

When you reached the dining room, you plopped yourself on a seat while your boyfriend took the seat across from you. The smell of freshly cooked salmon wafted around the room and your stomach growled at the savoring smell as well as the other food that were nicely prepared and neatly assembled in front of your view.

"It smells delicious Mattie!" You praised, already grabbing a fork and knife to cut the salmon.

"I'm glad you think so [name]." Matthew said, as he started eating.

"You're the best cook ever!" You stated, as you ate the delicious meal.

"Don't be silly [name]. I only cooked this meal since you did so much for me today… and I felt bad that you ended up doing so much work for preparing my birthday." He said with a shy smile.

"Aw don't worry, I just wanted you to have the best birthday ever! Especially since… you know… usually no one really remembers it's your birthday…" You mumbled.

"That's alright… really it is. The fact that I got to spend the day with everyone was great." Mattie smiled, holding your hand as you continued eating.

For a while you both just continued eating in silence, using one hand to feed yourselves as the other was holding each other hands.

Eventually, when the meal was done, you cleaned up the dishes together and then went outside to look at the stars.

Soon the firework show would start.

You both walked towards his balcony where you gazed at the night sky before it would be intruded by vivid flashing lights of all colors.

"Hey [name]?" Matthew suddenly called, getting your attention.

"Yes?"

"Thanks for all you've done today…  I just wish… I could return the favor." He said with tinted red cheeks as he fidgeted in place.

"I told you already, it's no problem. I did this for you because I love you and I want you to enjoy your birthday. You're the best boyfriend I've ever had… you're incredibly sweet and caring… this is merely a small portion of what I can do to thank you for loving me."

You said, tiptoeing so you could place a quick kiss on his nose.

"How can anyone not love you?" He muttered; face even more red than before.

"Wait one second Mattie, I forgot something." You suddenly said, walking off to the living room.

Quickly you grabbed the present you had hid and holding it behind your back, you quietly approached your Canadian boyfriend who was holding onto the railing as he happily stared at the night sky with a content smile that radiated warmth.

"Mattie!" you said in a singsong voice, hugging him from behind.

"Ah! Oh! Um yes?" He said, after calming himself.

"Here's my birthday gift to you." You whispered hotly in his reddening ear as you handed him the small gift.

"Y-You d-didn't have to [name]…" he murmured, trying to hide his blush with the gift.

"Maybe I didn't have to, but I wanted to." You answered genuinely, smiling.

"T-T-Thank you… I guess I should open it now, eh?" He asked, returning the smile.

Letting go of his waist, you let your boyfriend slowly open the small gift. You smiled as you saw his widening eyes at the wooden frame decorated with little maple leaves that encased a picture of the both of you during your first dance together. In the picture, you smiled as Matthew held you by the waist, with a shy blushing smile of his own. It was during, surprisingly, Alfred's wedding party and you two were happily dancing until the groom came to take a picture.

"So, what do you think?" you asked, after a moment.

"I love it, of course." He answered gently, wrapping you in a hug after placing the picture frame on a table near the balcony.

"I'm glad you do." You replied, tiptoeing to give him an Eskimo kiss.

Holding each other, while the cool breeze blew around your hair, the both of you gazed at the night sky. Somewhere far away, the Canadian anthem was heard.

Everything seemed to stop, as Matthew held you and you two would smile, talk and laugh over anything. It was a moment you loved, and the warm feeling bubbling from your stomach didn't seem like it would stop and you wished it wouldn't. The times where it was only the both of you, together in your own little imaginary world, were moments you'd forever cherish.

"Mattie…" You whispered sweetly.

"Hmm?" He said, gently laying his head on yours.

You turned to stare at his amethyst eyes and slowly wrapped your arms around his neck, effectively bringing your bodies closer.

"I… love you." You whispered, your cheeks suddenly feeling warm.

"[Name]…" He murmured, shocked, yet leaning closer to you.

"I really do, love you Mattie…" You confessed again, trapped in his captivating gaze.

"I love you too [name]." He confessed, as he finally leaned in to capture your lips.

Like every time you two kissed, you felt like your world had just been shaken and exploded in fireworks from the mere sensation. His lips brought warmness into your whole body as the sweet taste of maple syrup started coating your own lips. You held each other closer, wanting to deepen the kiss, and just as you were about to, loud noises erupted reminding you of the outside world.

"W-What was that?" You asked a little frightened, looking at the sky.

You felt Matthew's strong arms hold your waist protectively as he looked at the sky with you.

"Don't worry, it's nothing, the fireworks are just about to start." He said quietly yet reassuringly.

Just as he said that, colorful explosions were plastered into the sky making various forms.

"Wow…" you muttered, amazed at seeing fireworks as if it was the first time.

"Y-Y-You… look way m-more a-amazing than mere f-fireworks [name]…" Matthew whispered, and you could practically feel his cheeks blushing.

"Thanks Mattie!" You giggled at his cute words.

Staring at the fireworks, you held hands and hummed the Canadian anthem together in delight.

"Hey Mattie?" You suddenly said.

"Yes, [name]?" He asked a bit confused.

You quickly turned to give him a chaste kiss and returned looking at the fireworks with his arms still holding you tight.

"Happy birthday."
Hey~
After so long I finally managed to write the Canada x reader birthday fic ^-^
I'm so sorry I was late D:

Also, I've recently been in a... slump? [I guess?] So chances are the story isn't good ; 3 ;
There might be a lot of errors... I kind of rushed it >~<
