You were pleasantly walking towards McDonalds to go see a good friend of yours. It was a common thing for you to hang out with Alfred, your gluttonous best friend, once a week. Even though, you would see him every day at school. Yet, he always begged you to come and hang out with him at McDonalds because he hated working all the time at his part time job, and when you visited he could talk to you and do less work. Surprisingly, he never got fired, probably because he attracted lots of customers, especially girls with his good looks.

You wouldn't lie, but you would never admit it to his face, Alfred is handsome. His sky blue eyes, his short blond hair with an ahoge that always stands out, like himself, his energetic smile and happy-go-lucky attitude even added to his charming looks. Despite not being the smartest guy out there, he was truly sincere and sweet, towards you anyways.

Since the two of you met, he had always protected you, because he's the hero he says, and he always managed to make you smile in the darkest of times.

Sometimes you wondered what would happen to you if Alfred ever committed himself to a 'serious' relationship.  It wasn't the least surprising to know that he had dated many girls, as he is popular at school, but those relationships only lasted a week or a month at the longest. Sometimes you would feel weird in the stomach when you saw your best friend dating with some girl, but you never understood why.

Lately that feeling has been getting worse when Alfred confided in you that he had liked this girl for a long time and was wondering if he should ask her out. Naturally, you encouraged him to go for it, that no girl would ever reject him, but deep down you almost felt like telling him that he shouldn't ask. You were really confused as to what you were feeling, but you couldn't just ask him what it was and when you told your other friends, they just looked at you knowingly and said they didn't know.

As you were still deep in thought, you hadn't realized that you already entered the fast food restaurant. Quietly you went to your usual table and waited for your hamburger obsessed friend to sit down and talk with you.

A few minutes passed and he hasn't shown up. You discreetly looked around, not wanting to get attention and when you didn't see blond hair and blue eyes around the area, you walked up to the counter.

"What can I do for you, mate?" Kyle, an employee in the restaurant and a friend of yours asked.

"Oh hey Kyle, is Alfred here?"

"Yeah he's here; he's just working in the back."

"Oh…"

"Don't worry mate, I'll tell him you're here, alright?" He said casually.

"Alright thanks Kyle!" You smiled as you went back to your seat.

Minutes passed, and soon hours passed. It was night time and you found yourself all alone inside the fast food restaurant. Most of the workers already left, and you assumed that only the manager was left to deal with some management stuff. With a sigh you got up and wondered why Alfred didn't show up at all.

Just as you took one step the lights flickered, and suddenly you found yourself all alone in the dark.  Now you wouldn't admit it, but you were slightly afraid of being the dark. Plus the fact that MacDonald's mascot is a clown… well it makes it even scarier.

Slowly, you took small steps trying to find the nearest exit.

As you blindingly walked around you accidently bumped yourself into a table and fell on the ground. Getting back up, you were about to scream, hoping that the manager would hear you, when the lights turn back on. While your eyes were getting used to the sudden light exposure, you carefully walked towards the same table you bumped into to see there was hamburgers around. You wondered who could ever leave 8 hamburgers on a table and how you didn't realize it before. At a closer inspection, you noticed the burgers took forms of various letters.

"There is an I…a L…O…V…" you thought as you stared at the letter formed food.

"I love you?!" you read out loud, and suddenly you felt a pair of strong arms embrace you from the back.

"Haha… sorry for the wait [name]." the voice, you recognized as Alfred's, replied behind you.

"Alfred… what's the meaning of this…?" you asked dumbly.

"I didn't know how else to tell you…" he replied sheepishly.

"So… you went for the American way?" you said.

"The American way?" He asked.

"I mean, only in America would a person ever confess to someone they loved with hamburgers." You told him, trying to supress a giggle.

"Hm… true I guess… but I'm not lying you know." He revealed as he held you tighter.

"B-but… you told me you liked this girl for a very long time…"

"It was you, silly. I didn't want to tell you right then and there, it wouldn't be romantic at all." He replied, as you could practically feel him pouting.

"So… confessing with hamburgers is romantic?" you asked.

"It's HEROICALLY romantic." He countered playfully.

"Of course, hehe." You giggled.

"So…?"

"Hmm?"

"[Name]… I love you." He confessed properly as he gently turned you around so that you would face him.

Hearing his confession, you then realized that all this time, you were in love with Alfred without knowing.

"Alfred… I…" you started but was cut off with his disappointed eyes.

"It's okay, I know that this confession surprised you, you don't have to tell me, you like me, because you're in the moment." He replied.

"No… you're wrong," you started and you put a finger to his lips so that he wouldn't cut you off, "I never realized until you confessed, but I do love you. I have for a while, and it seems only your heroic hamburger confession managed to make me realize my feelings for you."

"Really? Great! Then… be my girlfriend, [name]?" He asked, as his face came closer to yours.

"Of course Al." you replied, closing your eyes as you felt his lips softly pressed onto your own.

When both of you parted, and as you both stared at each other, you smiled because no matter how unique it was being confessed in such a way, you were happy. You were happy because you finally understood why you never wanted Alfred to leave your side, and you were happy to know he wouldn't.

"Only in America could something like this ever happen." you thought.

"By the way Al?" you asked, as both of you exited MacDonald.

"Yeah?" He asked, while casually wrapping an arm around your waist.

"How long did it take you to make those letter shaped hamburgers?" You asked curious, remembering how delicious they tasted, when both of you ate it, before leaving.

"Not long really… about 2 maybe 3 hours?" He replied happily.

"Really… I figured it would take much longer… maybe even a day." You thought out loud.

"It probably would, but thanks to my bro Mattie and my awesome cousin Kyle we got to finish it quicker!" He revealed laughing.

"Wow. They didn't ask for anything in exchange?"

"Well Mattie said I should try remembering him more, and well I promised I would take Kyle's shift for the next two weeks."

"Really two weeks? Then we won't have much time together."

"Don't worry! You can always visit me while I'm working," he started and suddenly he gave you a quick kiss, "Besides being your boyfriend right now is worth it."

"I love you Alfred…" you blushed.

"I love you too [name]."
